Sun Moon Lake - XingFu 6th Grade Trip

Well life is pretty sweet right now. I'm writing this from a cute bungalow that is on stilts above a pond and surrounded by gardens and forest. This nice place isn't just anywhere, it is near the center of Taiwan, close to Sun Moon lake. It is a wonderful part of Taiwan, with the trademark mountains and sunshine.

Today we started out by going right to the lake. Us teachers took a little detour from the kids by getting on a yacht and heading across the lake...along with about a zillion other Taiwanese tourists who thought Tuesday would be a good day to look around their island.

After completing our ride, we headed to another ride, and this time with all the students too. We jumped aboard the gondola. It was a smooth ride that had many stellar views that could really take your breath away. At the end of the gondola was the entrance to the "Aboriginal Cultural Center". This place was well designed, and blended well into the landscape, which in this case consisted of a sloping mountain and lots of trees. The heart of the site was, of course, a mini theme park...but a good theme park. I dropped several hundred feet, speed around a tack (at times upside down), plunged from incredible heights into water (getting quite wet), and hugged some startled Taiwanese for dear life. What a day.

Now looking backward. Sunday, I tagged along with my roommates to do some hot spring therapy. I've never done anything like it before. We went to the inexpensive community pool where everyone had to wear swimsuits (my preference). They had three levels of varying hot pools, and then two cold pools. It was crazy. I would get out of the hot pool, and it looked like I was evaporating. If I was to slow then my hearing would fade, and the world would sound distant, as if I had my head under a pillow. Then I would sit in the cold pool (after making quite a few disturbing faces) and my head would clear up and the world would sound peculiarly clear. Wow - I think it did some good things for my immune system too. I'm feeling good today anyway.

Well that's a wrap for now. I'll post pictures about some of this in a couple days. My net-book coupled with this internet is not ready for that kind of commitment.

Peace.
